what to say to friend who is expecting baby with birth defect?
I got a email from a pregnant friend whose baby is going to have a birth defect (cleft lip/ palette). What do i say to her? Don't want to say sorry because its not something I should feel sorry about. Kind of stuck. any ideas?
Coming from a mother of a daughter that was born with a cleft, how about "congrats!" Just keep it simple.. Please don't say, "oh there is so much they can do now..It's so easy to fix!" Yes there is, and yes it can be fixed, but it's beyond overwhelming! That is honestly the last thing parents want to hear..Just be there for her..No need to say you're sorry..If there is something you'd like to get her go to www.cleftline.org and they have gund bears with a couple little stitches in it where the cleft scar will be..It's ADORABLE!! We bought one for our daughter..1 in 700 births are born with some type of cleft..It's very common, more common than people know..There also is a ton of support available..Just be there for a shoulder or an ear..
