Question of genetic inheritance?
1. If a male mates expressing a disease related to sex with a woman who carries the disease, which is the possible phenotypes of their offspring be? 2. If you are a cross between a purple and test plant with white flowers and get ½ ½ descendants white and purple offspring, which is the genotype of the purple parent (assuming complete dominance)? 3. If a male and a female are both heterozygous for an autosomal dominant disease have children, what will the possible phenotypes of their offspring be? What are the phenotypes parents?
1. The offspring will be one of four types with probability 25% each. The cross is (if the allele is affected designated A, and the affected allele is a): X (A, X) (a) x X (offspring) are: X (A, X) (a), female, normal (but carrier) X (X a) (a), female, affected X (A) Y male X normal (a) Y, male, 2 affected. A test cross is a cross between a tester homozygous recessive and completely unknown, so the cross is: (purple) Px PP (white) If the parent was purple PP, then all descendants would purple, so the parent must be heterozygous purple: Pp x PP gives offspring in equal (50%) ratios: PP, PP violet, white 3. If the parents are heterozygous for an autosomal dominant, then both will express the disorder.
