why should neutered dogs be only lead exercised?
OUr 9 month old GSP is recovering superbly from his operation, wound dry and looking good. No stitches to be removed but we're told lead exercise only for 10 days. this is impossible in a dog who is used to running flat out for over an hour a day. We are letting him run for short periods in an open field where he can't hurt himself or catch the wound and he seems much happier. Lead exercise drives him crazy as it's NO exercise for him.
It's to prevent the incision from opening and also to prevent bleeding. But my vet never told me to limit my male dog's exercise after they were neutered. Females have to be kept quiet for several days,but even that is pretty near impossible with a young,active dog. I would just continue to watch him closely and make sure that he doesn't run too much until he's healed completely.
