How do you get cigarette smoke smell out of a DVD case?
I recently bought a season of a TV show secondhand. I brought it home and was looking through it and got a whiff of cigarette smoke smell.
The DVD case is not just plastic, it's also paper/cardstock (like the jacket that comes on some movies that the case slides in and out of). Any suggestions on getting rid of the smell?
Here is what I have seen done for ashtrays, it may work in your situation as well.
After making sure the plastic portions are clean. If you can separate the paper portion safely, do so. If not, then just be careful not to get it wet. Now, for the plastic part, make a solution of warm water and tea Tree oil (this is an antiseptic). Just a few drops of the oil. dampen a clean cloth in the water solution, wring out and proceed to clean all over the case. Allow to air dry, don't rinse.
Next, submerge the paper portion and the plastic case in dry baking soda. Make sure it is completely covered and leave the case in the baking soda for at least 24 hours, more if it needs it. Baking soda neutralizes odors and is used in ash trays all the time, so it should help with the second hand smoke.
Best of luck to you!
Renee
